Leaving nothing to be desired: The hood

Weighing just 44 kg, the hood of the Audi R8 Spyder V10 quattro² helps boost the outstanding power-to-weight ratio. An electrohydraulic drive folds the hood under a carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) lid in just 20 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h. It’s just as easy to retract and extend the rear window in the bulkhead at the push of a button.

Power from the centre

At the heart of the Audi R8 lies a naturally aspirated V10 engine situated between the axles. The 5.2 FSI engine (Fuel consumption combined¹: 13.1–13.0 l/100 km; CO₂ emissions combined¹: 297 g/km) strengthens the vehicle’s character with its tremendous power – providing maximum torque of 560 Nm at 6,200 rpm. The dry sump lubrication allows the engine to be mounted especially low, which greatly influences the precision with which you can control the R8 in any situation. The special firing sequence of the ten cylinders is what ultimately provides the remarkably distinctive acoustics.

Delivering 419 kW (570 hp), the mid-engine enables you to reach 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. It’s another 222 km/h before you reach top speed. Accompanying you on this journey are a new 7-speed S tronic transmission with closely spaced sporty gears and an optimised quattro drive that provides optimum torque distribution at all times.

The suspension: precision in all its facets

The Audi R8 Spyder V10 quattro² has the Audi drive select dynamic handling system with four modes on board as standard. Audi magnetic ride with CFRP stabiliser is available as an optional ultralight damping system that adapts the functioning of the shock absorbers to your driving style and to the profile of the road.

Available as an option, dynamic steering adjusts the steering angle based on the speed to enable extremely agile handling. The steel brake system with perforated and internally ventilated brake discs reduces torque. Its striking wave design shows the great extent to which Audi incorporates its lightweight design approach into every detail of the R8 Spyder quattro² Optionally available as a ceramic brake system with brake callipers in red, anthracite or blue.

Form follows fascination – the design

When closed, the hood accentuates the overall athleticism of the Audi R8 Spyder V10 quattro². When the vehicle is open, your attention is drawn to the powerfully accentuated wheel arches and the flattened grooves above the Singleframe.

Deep horizontal lines give the R8 an even flatter and sportier appearance. The rear makes an ultimate statement about sportiness with its high-mounted diffuser, the air vent grille that spans the width of the car and the new, oval exhaust tailpipes. You can opt to replace the standard 19-inch wheels with newly designed 20-inch milled wheels that are available in 5-V-dynamic design with three different surface options.

The Audi virtual cockpit: all the information you need

The combination of MMI navigation plus and Audi virtual cockpit that comes as standard is designed to make all functions easy to operate, without you having to take your hands off the wheel or your eyes off the road. On the 12.3-inch display of the Audi virtual cockpit, the focus is on a rev counter around which other performance values can be arranged, such as torque, G-forces, lap times, engine and gear oil temperatures plus tyre pressure and temperature. The MMI control system works with intelligent voice recognition.
