The TDI engines in the Audi A8
The diesel engine range for the Audi A8 is topped by the 4.2 TDITDISynonymous with muscular torque delivery and outstanding efficiency: TDI. Today, TDI engines are sporty, smooth and economical.TDI with its impressive 240 kW (326 bhp). With this high power yield, the V8 is one of the most powerful diesels in a diesel saloon car. The result is a time of just 5.9 seconds for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. It reaches its maximum torque of 650 Nm at just 1,600 rpm and maintains it up to 3,500 rpm. The Audi A8 3.0 TDI quattro also makes one thing clear from the very start: sports performance and common sense are no contradiction. The direct-injection V6 displays its power without compromise. The determination of its 171 kW (233 bhp) leaves no room for doubt. It surges forward with a maximum torque of 450 Nm between 1,400 and 3,250 rpm.
Both diesel engines use the latest generation of the common rail system. Piezo injection technology increases refinement while reducing emissions and consumption.
The FSI® engines in the Audi A8
As the most powerful of the Audi A8’s tried-and-tested petrol engines, the V8 FSIFSIGetting more out of every drop of petrol.FSI ® makes driving even more fun. With a capacity of 4.2 litres, this free-revving engine unleashes its impressive 257 kW (350 bhp) and 440 Nm at just 3,500 rpm. 85% of this torque is already available at just 2,000 rpm. Equipped with this engine, it takes just 6.1 seconds to accelerate the Audi A8 from 0 to 100 km/h. The reasons for this early power delivery: the strong lightweight engine’s FSI® injection principle and 4-valve technology.
Just how well the Audi A8 combines luxurious, sporty travel with high efficiency and low fuel consumption is demonstrated particularly clearly by the Audi A8 2.8 FSI e with its 2.8 FSI® petrol engine: the high-tech V6 engine develops 154 kW (210 bhp) and delivers its maximum torque of 280 Nm across a broad speed range from 3,000 to 5,000 rpm. With an acceleration time of just 8.0 seconds to 100 km/h and a top speed of 238 km/h, the A8 2.8 FSI e undoubtedly delivers a supreme driving experience. At the same time, the A8 2.8 FSI e achieves a standard consumption figure of just 8.3 litres per 100 kilometres. This equates to CO2 emissions of 199 grams per kilometre.
The 3.2 FSI® six-cylinder engine is also extremely sporty and similarly efficient: thanks to 191 kW (260 bhp) and a maximum torque of 330 Nm, the engine responds directly to a mere tap of the accelerator pedal.
